Tournament of Roses announces this year’s award-winning Rose Parade floats

The Tournament of Roses has announced the 24 floats awarded official honors in the 129th Rose Parade Presented by Honda. The awards recognize excellence in a variety of categories and specifications, including:

The Sweepstakes Award for most beautiful entry, encompassing float design, floral presentation and entertainment went to Singpoli American BD for their “Rising Above” float. Meanwhile, the Americana Award for the most outstanding depiction of national treasures and traditions went to Farmer Insurance for its “Honoring Hometown Heroes” entry.

The Animation Award for most outstanding use of animation for the “Making It Safe for All” float by the Underground Service Alert of Southern California. The most whimsical and amusing float was La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association’s “Panda-Monium” float, which took home the Bob Hope Award.

The Extraordinaire Trophy for most extraordinary float went to The UPS Store’s “Books Bring Dreams to Life,” while the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association’s “Chivalry!” float took home the Fantasy Award for most outstanding display of fantasy and imagination.

The Founder Award, for most outstanding float built and decorated by volunteers from a community or organization, went to the Burbank Tournament of Roses Association for its “Sand-Sational Helpers” entry. The Golden State Award for most outstanding depiction of life in California went to the City of Riverside for its “25th Annual Festival of Lights” float, and Dole Packaged Foods was honored with the Grand Marshal Award for most outstanding creative concept and float design for its “Sharing Nature’s Bounty” float.

The Leishman Public Spirit Award for most outstanding floral presentation from a non-commercial participant went to the United Sikh Mission for “Serving Kindness,” while the City of Torrance took home the Mayor Award for most outstanding float from a participating city for its float “Protecting Nature…The Madrona Marsh Preserve.”

The Past President Award, honoring the most outstanding innovation in the use of floral and non-floral materials went to Cal Poly Universities for their “Dreams Take Flight” float. The President Award for most outstanding use and presentation of flowers went to Western Asset Management Company for its “Oceans of Possibility” entry.

Finally, Donate Life took home the Theme Award for most outstanding presentation of the Rose Parade Theme for its “The Gift of Time” float. The Shriners Hospital for Children earned the Tournament Volunteer honor for most outstanding floral presentation of the Rose Parade Theme among floats 35 feet and under in length for its “Caring for Kids from Around the World” float.

ANTICIPATED ARTWORKS

300 Artisan exhibits featured at 21st Pasadena Bead and Design show

Celebrating handcraft and jewelry design, the 21st Pasadena Bead and Design Show will feature 300 artisan exhibits throughout the four-day event at the Hilton Pasadena, 168 S. Los Robles Ave., Jan. 11 through Jan. 14. Exhibits including handmade beads, artistic jewelry and gemstones and many original designs are being offered for the first time and by the artisans themselves.

There will also be a wide variety of art clothing, textiles, findings, beading and craft supplies, embellishments and decorative fibers. In addition, a selection of designer accessories such as felted hats, leather, artwear, hand-dyed silks, raku beads, hill tribe silver, antique pearls, tribal textiles, painted linen, hand-tooled leather shoes, eco-dyed clothing, fashion design, polymer clay jewelry, embroidery, and woodblock fabric will also be available.

More than 150 workshops will also be offered at all skill levels, in categories such as jewelry design, glass fusing and metal work.
