Legendary blues-rock guitarist and vocalist Coco Montoya rules the roost Saturday night at Arcadia Blues Club, as he tours in support of his latest Alligator Records release, “Hard Truth.”
The easy truth is that Montoya got a solid education in the school of blues, learning his trade under the Telecaster Master Albert Collins. His “graduate school” came in the form of 10 years on the road with John Mayall. Following that education, he developed a hard-edged style all his own. His performances and recordings are characterized by memorable songs driven by forceful, melodic guitar work and passionate vocals.
The new CD features the work of monster players, all of whom boast work with other top names in the music business. When he’s not recording, Montoya is a tireless road warrior, packing clubs and theaters worldwide. He gets audiences on their feet in festivals stretching from New York to New Orleans, Chicago and San Francisco. Saturday night offers an awesome way to start the New Year with a bang.
