HOW ABOUT NO GUNS?
Every gun is a potential magnet for another gun.
Gun owners, if you are so afraid of being killed or maimed by a gun, then you, or a family member, quite possibly will be killed or maimed by a gun (self-fulfilling prophecy).
As beautiful Gabby Giffords and many other gun owners have discovered, you probably won’t have your gun with you when the time comes anyway. The magnet is still activated, in line with you and your intent.
How about doing what sane countries do? Let’s invest in arts and education (soul food) and great mental health programs instead of war and weapons of mass destruction. Let’s start getting our priorities right.
Republicans have failed our youth. Kids shouldn’t have to be instructing us to “Vote Them Out.” Adults should have done that years ago.
We are not a free country. We are an international disgrace.

DRIVING FORCE
Each of us can contribute to the fight against global warming by reducing our driving, use of electric energy and consumption of animals.
Yes, that. Last fall, Oxford University’s prestigious Food Climate Research Network and Germany’s Heinrich Bolle Foundation concluded that solving the global warming catastrophe requires massive shift to a plant-based diet. A 2010 United Nations report blamed animal agriculture for 70 percent of global freshwater use, 38 percent of land use, and 19 percent of greenhouse gas emissions.
Carbon dioxide is emitted by burning forests to create animal pastures and by operating farm machinery to grow animal feed. The more damaging methane and nitrous oxide are released from digestive tracts of cattle and from animal waste cesspools, respectively.
Moreover, meat and dairy production dumps more animal waste, crop debris, fertilizers, pesticides and other pollutants into our waterways than all other human activities combined. It is the driving force behind wildlife habitat destruction.
In an environmentally sustainable world, meat and dairy products in our diet must be replaced by vegetables, fruits and grains, just as fossil fuels are replaced by wind, solar, and other pollution-free energy sources.

TRADE WAR LUNACY
I really get tickled about all of the “panic talk” and “scare talk” about trade war. “Oh my God,” they scream, “we are going to have a trade war!” Well, guess what folks, we have been in a one-way trade war for over 20 years. Other countries, especially China, have had tariffs on our exports as high as 25 percent for at least 20 years. What President Trump is trying to do is level the playing field.
What is so bad about that? The people who are screaming “trade war, trade war” are utter morons. They have not read the history of our one-way trade war as I have. I call it “diode like trade” because it has been one way (like a diode).
Anyway, folks, stop believing the morons who are trying to start a panic. This is one time President Trump is telling the truth.
Maybe there is an ulterior motive at work, with respect to the morons. Maybe they all have invested money in businesses that moved to China.

Re: “Updated Reality Check,” April 12
Scott, quite possibly one of the greatest services you could offer PUSD and the community would be to simply resign. As always, your letters are full of excuses for PUSD’s continual failure and excuses as we all know are “the skin of a reason, stuffed with a lie.” You have conveniently left out the truth in your “opinion” piece. I guess I see why… because it would show you for what you really are.
