Sri Lanka Day Expo celebrates culture and seeks to raise funds for hospital expansion

The Sri Lanka Foundation celebrates the 12th annual Sri Lanka Day Exposition from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Pasadena City Hall, featuring the sights, sounds and flavors of the ancient island nation.

The day includes traditional dance troupes, a fashion show, musical acts, an exotic food festival and a “Pageant of Lanka” parade with floats at sunset along Colorado Boulevard.

This year’s festival also launches the foundation’s fundraising campaign for a capital building project for a hospital expansion in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the country’s largest city.

The Sri Lanka Foundation was founded by Dr. Walter Jayasinghe to promote Sri Lankan culture and raise money for Sri Lankan humanitarian projects. One of those projects, organized by the foundation in response to the deadly tsunami that hit the island in 2004 is to expand the hospital from 22 to 150 beds.

Pasadena City Hall is located at 100 N. Garfield Ave., Pasadena.
