No matter what your political preference may be, participation in our democratic processes offers a way to make one’s voice heard. Music fans can take a bite of that American political pie Saturday afternoon with “Songs of Resistance, Protest and Hope,” a Rock the Vote benefit concert at Coffee Gallery Backstage.

Rock the Vote is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that strives to grow the political engagement and power of young people through pop culture, music, art and technology. To that end, Saturday’s fundraiser for the effort offers a good way to help consummate the engagement.

Area Americana music stalwarts, many of them familiar to local fans, will take the stage in Altadena, among them Beth Fichet Wood, Raspin Stuart, Severin Browne, Joyce Woodson, Tony Gilkyson, Dale La Duke, Randall Lamb, Stan de Witt, Alan Wachs and Jaynee Thorne. Visit rockthevote.org for information.

Music starts at 2 p.m. Saturday at Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N. Lake Ave., Altadena. Tickets are $20. Call (626) 798-6236 for reservations and visit coffeegallery.com for information.
