The three young women who make up Honey Whiskey Trio, presented by the Folk Music Society at Caltech Saturday night, perform mostly a cappella, although they sometimes perform on guitars, banjos and mandolins, creating music out of influences from the music halls, hymn books and front porches of early America.

The threesome — Courtney Gasque, Ann Louise Jeffries Thaiss and Christina Wilson — met as students at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at Cal State, Long Beach. They went on to take first-place honors at the regional Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival in 2013, after having only been together four months. The three women went on to win first place in the Sweepstakes’ national competition several months later.
