The Celso Salim Band, a Brazilian blues sensation now based in Los Angeles, visits the Arcadia Blues Club Saturday night.
Fronted by guitarist, vocalist songwriter and producer Celso Salim, the group has garnered four Independent Music Awards, including one for Best Album.
Starting in his home town of Brasilia, Salim in 2001 built a solid career, releasing five solo albums. He is considered by critics to be one of the top guitarists in Brazil, and has toured with top blues/rock acts from that country. He has also opened for such acts as B.B. King, Deep Purple and John Hammond, and has received various awards for his songwriting.
His current act produces a modern blues sound that is informed by past blues traditions, and the band incorporates elements of country, soul, jazz and classic rock. It all adds up to a high-energy, soulful performance that is a hit wherever the band tours. The Celso Salim Band’s latest disc is “Mama’s Hometown.”
Music starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at Arcadia Blues Club, 16 E. Huntington Drive, Arcadia. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Call (626) 447-9349 or visit arcadiabluesclub.com.
