HAD TO BE TOLD Although I have not yet read her book, I am dismayed by all of the negativity directed at Hillary Rodham Clinton. She’s right about so much of what I’ve heard through news clips. We are living through the terror of Trump because of the obstructions that she cites. It had to be told. ~  CAROL SPECTOR VIA INTERNET   FAILING GRADES Traditionally, there was a close relationship between Pasadena’s prominent African-American community and our local community college, Pasadena City College. That relationship has deteriorated and the college is now suspected of turning a blind eye...

THE FRENCH MISTAKE I read your restaurant reviews whenever they appear in the Pasadena Weekly. I like them! I forget whether or not I’ve written to you before, but I wanted to write to you about a little thing in your review of the Glendale Shaker’s. It’s a common error that probably at least 90% of people make, so don’t feel singled out! EVERYONE’S A CRITIC A beautiful new middle school at Blair. A beautiful new Sierra Madre Middle School. A state of the art auditorium at Eliot. A state of the art TV studio at Muir. Nice renovations and new additions to McKinley. Beautiful new gyms at McKinley and Washington for the schools and the community to use.  A wonderful new gym at Marshall. And what was the headline in the Pasadena Star News on Sept. 12, courteous of an overzealous Citizens Oversight Committee and a reporter who has consistently written the most critical articles she could write about the PUSD?...

FREE SPEECH? This attack on conservatives by Christopher Judges of Ventura is the same thing the conservatives say of the crazy left. Very biased, “If you’re not part of the solution you’re part of the problem” mentality. “If you voted for Trump you are a racist.” Then there’s the moral high ground: “Don’’t you care?” What if I care differently? And the biased, lying media fanning the flames of the masses. Don’t fall for this. Most of the conservatives I know have stopped watching the biased, lying “news.” Some people cannot speak out for fear of ridicule, harassment, intimidation...

TIME TO TALK To members of the Pasadena City Council’s Public Safety Committee: Spokeo, a service that provides mass surveillance via social media and public records enhanced for law enforcement, was presented at the City Council’s Public Safety Committee meeting. Our Police Department has been testing it recently for possible acquisition. ACLU welcomes a public opportunity to discuss and debate this new mass surveillance technology before the city’s acquisition. Police departments across the nation are increasing their use of social media software for mass surveillance. But most citizens and elected representatives know nothing about their presence, their use, their...
