The Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library are encouraging their neighbors to “make room at home, support a local library and receive a receipt for a tax-deductible gift all at the same time.”

They’re looking for used books, DVDs and CDs to sell at their bookstore and the last chance section, on the library’s second and first floors, respectively. Everything is 50 cents on these shelves.

The organization uses the funds to, for example, pay the $3,000 annual subscription fee for tutor.com, an online service that benefits students. In the last year, between April 2021 and April 2022, users logged 430 tutoring sessions for a total of 125 hours.

Donations are accepted at the library’s circulation desk or reference desk at 1100 Oxley Street, or to the employee entrance on Fairview Avenue. Box or bag all materials. Leave boxed items on a bench located adjacent to the entrance door. Bagged or loose materials can be deposited in the marked bins. For extremely large donations, call ahead to 626-403-7340.

Magazines, journals, newspapers, textbooks, catalogs, vinyl LPs, VHS tapes nor cassettes are accepted.
